A Tale of Two Races for The Marchams at I-44 Speedway
Trey Marcham brings home a victory while Josh finishes 8th despite violent wreck
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 26, 2010) - Josh and Trey Marcham returned to I-44 Speedway (OK) Friday looking to dominate in the non-wing sprint class of the Oklahoma Shoot Out. Trey's experience racing non-wing sprints was apparent, but Friday's race was younger brother Josh's first time competing in the division.
Trey started Friday's A-feature event in the 7th position, and Josh started only a couple spots behind him in 11th. Both drivers effortlessly weaved their way through the field, when a collision with another driver landed Josh in a major wreck. The impact sent Josh's car tumbling down the back straightaway and resulted in a trip to the hospital. Josh's wreck relegated him to an eighth-place finish. Fortunately, Josh was released from the hospital with only a few bumps and bruises to attest for the accident.
For Trey, the night's events led him to a satisfying first-place finish, adding to his already stellar season- record. It only took a few laps for Trey to pass the rest of the field before he secured the top spot.
"It felt good to come away with a win," said Trey. "It's unfortunate that my brother had to go to the hospital."
After earning the titles of Limited and A-Class Champion last year at I-44, Trey demonstrated he is a driver to be reckoned with again this season. He has already accumulated four wins at I-44 Speedway this year, and Friday's victory turned his record into an impressive fifth. Currently, Trey's success this season has landed him the top spot of I-44 Speedway's non-wing class point standings.
Although Josh made his non-winged clad debut Friday night, he also made the jump to running the winged A-Class full-time this season. He won the Restrictor Class track championship in 2009. Josh currently stands third in the A-Class season standings, only 58 markers behind leader, Jason Leir.
The Marcham brothers will make their next appearance in the Tanstate Casting sponsored race events Friday, May 28th, at I-44 Speedway.
