Christian PaHud Scores Top-Five Finish at Tri-County Motor Speedway
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 7, 2010) - Activ8 Development driver Christian PaHud finished fourth at Tri-County Motor Speedway on Friday, June 4. This marked PaHud's fifth top-five in six limited late model races this season.
PaHud struggled in qualifying, posting the seventh fastest time for Friday night's race. Following the qualifying run, PaHud's Orion Motorsports team made extensive changes to the No. 63 car, including replacing a cracked right front tire hub.
As the race got underway, rain drops began to fall on the track. PaHud fell to eighth before the first caution flag came out on lap 10. During the caution, rain started to fall harder. The caution period was extended until the rain eased up, but a light sprinkle remained through the entirety of the race.
On the restart, PaHud took advantage of the high-line on the racetrack to gain two positions and move up to sixth on lap 15.
"The restart was the only time that we could do anything," PaHud said. "I could only go when we were on the top by ourselves."
PaHud remained in sixth position throughout the middle of the race as he struggled with the handling of the car. Christian fought through lap traffic, but did not find himself in a battle for position for much of the race.
"I don't know if we didn't go far enough with the changes, if we went too far or if the weather changed too much for us," PaHud said. "We just got tight there and couldn't get it to the bottom or get away from anybody to where we could make any passes."
Late in the race, the caution flag flew again. PaHud again took advantage of the high-line on the restart, launching himself into fifth position. In the final laps, PaHud was able to get around point standings rival Tyler Church in the No. 07 car for fourth.
When the checkered flag fell over the field, PaHud was able to overcome the rain and an ill-handling car to finish fourth.
"We got lucky on that last restart and got a couple spots, which helped us out in the points a little bit," PaHud said. "I've just got to thank all the guys for all of their hard work and thank the track for helping us get this in before the rain started coming down too hard," he said.
PaHud is currently second in the point standings, sitting just six points behind leader Waylon Flynn. PaHud is set to return to the track Friday, June 11.
