Successful Start to 2010 Season for Chris Young Thus Far

Chris YoungChris Young continues to succeed on the track early in the 2010 season. The 16-year-old New York native has been busy on and off the track.

Shangri-La II Motor Speedway
Young competes in the INEX Legends division at Shangri-La II Motor Speedway. So far this season, Young has seen great success at the Owego, N.Y track. He is competing in the seven-race series at the track.

To start off the season right, Young drove his way to second place in the division's first race of the season at the track on May 16.

In the second race on May 30, Young was ready to continue his achievement on the track. Beginning on the outside pole in the heat race, Young passed the leader in turn two to take the victory. Using the first place finish in the heat race as momentum, the driver was ready to compete for the feature win.

"I redrew to start third," explained Young. "When the green flag dropped, I fell back to fifth at the beginning of the race, but I knew that I could race hard to the finish."

As the hard-fought race continued, Young pushed his way into the top-three. The race concluded with an exciting green-white-checker finish.

"At the restart, we lined up double-file," explained Young. "I was right on the bumper of the car in front of me, and we were involved in a scuffle. As the car came down on me, I dropped the left-side tires on the blacktop around the bottom. I slipped a little bit but finished third when the checkered flag dropped."

Young is currently third in points in the division at Shangri-La II Motor Speedway. He will compete in four more races this season at the track: July 4, Aug. 1, Sept. 5, Oct. 2-3.

Riverhead Raceway
Young is also competing in the full Legends schedule at Riverhead Raceway. The track, built in 1949, is a one-quarter-mile asphalt, high-banked oval.

This season, Young is making a charge towards the championship at the Riverhead Raceway. He finished in the top-five in three of four races.

On June 5, Young was poised to compete for the win. After starting in the seventh position, he used knowledge and experience to battle toward the front throughout the entire race.

"I used the high-groove to make my way forward," said Young. His smart moves and determination allowed the driver to move to the front and take the checkered flag in the third position.

Young is currently fifth in points at Riverhead Raceway in the Legends division, 32 points out of first place. His next race at Riverhead Raceway is June 19.

Concord Motorsports Park
After competing at Riverhead Raceway Saturday, Young traveled to Concord, N.C. to compete at Concord Motorsports Park Sunday.

Young started third and was not going to back off the top two cars. "I knew I wanted to hang with the fast cars," said Young. "They both were in a points battle, however, and I did not want to get in their way."

Young raced with the top-two for most of the race, gaining valuable experience for the Summer Shootout. Staying out of the points battle, the N.Y. native settled for a third place finish.

Next up: Summer Shootout

Next up on the schedule for Young is the opening night of the Kangaroo Express Summer Shootout on Tuesday, June 8. The series, which competes on the quarter-mile oval on the Charlotte Motor Speedway front straightaway, features a full night of racing including Legends, Bandoleros and school bus racing.

"It is a very busy week," said Young. "I'm hoping to bring home a win."

Off the Track
Young recently participated in a customer appreciation day for his sponsor, Ray the Plumber. "It was a great experience," said Young. "I am so thankful to have Ray the Plumber as my main sponsor, so it was fun to spend time at the customer appreciation party."

The driver also had the opportunity to be interviewed by B103 to discuss life as a racecar driver. "I enjoyed going on the radio show," stated Young. "It was a great experience."
