Busy Week of Racing for Christian PaHud

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 24, 2010) - Activ8 Development driver Christian PaHud had a busy week, as he competed in his Limited Late Model on Friday and in a Legends car at the Summer Shootout on Tuesday. The 17-year-old scored his sixth top-five of the season at Tri-County Motor Speedway, finishing fourth on Friday, June 18. Unfortunately, PaHud's luck turned for the Shootout, when the brakes broke on his Legends car before he could run the feature race.

PaHud started strong in practice Friday as he radioed to the crew that the car was perfect. In qualifying, however, the team noticed PaHud was forced to use more brake than normal in order to turn well.

Following PaHud's fifth-place qualifying run, the No. 63 Orion Motorsports team made several changes to the car to get it ready for the race.

As the cars begin to file onto the track, the 17-year-old radioed to his crew he was having a hard time hearing his mother, who serves as his spotter. The team switched his radio but that did not fix the problem. PaHud was forced to run the race with very limited communication from his team and spotter.

"I couldn't hear at all because we had to try some new ear plugs for this race," PaHud said. "I didn't hear anything my mom said, so I had to just kind of guess when she said clear."

The No. 63 Chevrolet was extremely loose in the beginning of the race, but PaHud held his ground. On lap 11, PaHud's car was spun, but he was able to save the car and escape with no damage. Following the spin, PaHud came to pit road for an adjustment.

PaHud restarted the race in the seventh position, quickly racing his way to fourth by lap 15. The remainder of the event was caution-free, and PaHud settled for a fourth -place finish, as he never got an opportunity to catch up and race with the leaders.

"We loosened the car up a lot after qualifying trying to get it to turn," PaHud explained. "We went too far, and we couldn't get any forward bite off the corner. After we came in to make the adjustment, the car was better, but we still lacked forward bite. We're moving in the right direction, though. We got the car a lot better than it has been the last couple weeks. I've just got to thank my team for getting this car ready for this week."

After eight races, PaHud is currently tied for third in the overall Limited Late Model points standings at Tri-County Motor Speedway. He sits 26 points behind leader Waylon Flynn.

PaHud spent the weekend and Monday preparing to return to the Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He won the Summer Shootout Series Championship in 2007 but has not raced in a Legends car in recent years as he transitioned into stock cars.

"We practiced on Monday, with four different set-ups on four different cars," PaHud stated. "We just wanted to try a few things. We went back to the shop on Tuesday morning and put stuff together for the race."

"That night, we ran the heat race, and the brake master cylinder went out," PaHud continued. "After that, I only had rear brakes. We did not have time to change it between the heat race and the B Main, so I wasn't able to race the feature event. I'm looking forward to returning next week and getting back to Legends racing."

PaHud will be back at Tri-County Motor Speedway this Friday, June 25 and will return to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Summer Shootout Series race on Tuesday, June 29.
