Marcham Finds Success at Port City Raceway
Third-Place Finish for Marcham Marks Best Finish at Port City Raceway
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 24, 2010) - Saturday, June 19th, was an exciting day for Trey Marcham as it marked his best-ever finish at Port City Raceway (OK). While the former Limited and A-Class I-44 Speedway Champion is accustomed to dominating in the non-wing sprint division, Marcham has constantly found himself battling to pull off a solid finish at Port City. Even so, Marcham proved this weekend that nothing can stand in the way of his success.
It was a busy weekend of racing for Marcham with qualifying and race features on both Friday and Saturday. In the first heat race Friday night, Marcham scored a win, immediately placing him in the top-six of points overall and earning a spot in the A-Main Feature event.
After the qualifying draw, Marcham would start the A-Main feature in fifth-place, so it looked like he would be in a good position for a quality finish. Marcham quickly wheeled his way to fourth, and was looking to gain a position when he made contact with the third-place challenger. The contact left Marcham spinning towards the infield. Forced to restart the race at the tail end of the field with a slightly damaged front-end, Marcham tried everything in his power to move back through the field but ran out of time, relegating him to an 11th-place finish.
Undeterred by Friday night's finish, Marcham showed up to the track Saturday determined to turn his luck around. Unable to directly transfer from his heat race to the A-feature, Marcham was required to run the non-wing B-main. Starting in the fourth position, Marcham wasted no time in getting to the front. Once he grabbed the lead, Marcham was untouchable and drove to an impressive victory - sealing a spot in the A-feature.
Taking the green flag from the 18th position, Marcham had his work cut out for him. Despite multiple cautions and some tough competition, Marcham methodically wove his way through the field, climbing to the third position by the time the white flag waved. With only one lap remaining, he drove underneath the second-place car for a drag race to the finish, but was unable to secure the position, ending his day in third position.
"Third is the best I have ever done here," said Marcham. "We never seem to have any luck here, but we finished really well considering that we had to come all the way from the back. It's a tough place to race, so it was a good way to end the weekend."
Trey will be looking for another top-three finish when he visits I-44 Speedway for his next race on Friday, June 25th.
