Marcham Brothers Come Out on Top at I-44 Speedway
Exciting Night of Racing Ends With Sibling Battle for the Win
MOORESVILLE, NC (June 30, 2010) - Josh and Trey Marcham traveled to I-44 Speedway (OK) for a busy day of Sprint racing on Friday, June 25th. While both brothers battled it out in the A-Class division, Trey also competed in the Non-Wing division feature hoping to take home two impressive finishes.
With solid performances in their A-Class heat races, Josh and Trey Marcham qualified directly into the A-Main event starting in sixth and 11th-place respectively. The brother duo took the green flag eager to fight their way to the front of the 20-car field. While Josh worked his way to second place by lap four, his brother, Trey, quickly caught up to his back bumper allowing him to closely follow Josh through the pack. Once Josh closed the gap between himself and the leader on lap nine, he was able to take over the top spot with Trey still right behind him.
Josh held on to the lead for three laps until Trey was able to pull alongside him in a drag race for first. When Trey finally gained the momentum to pass Josh, the brothers flip-flopped between first and second position for the next several laps. With only five laps remaining, Trey secured the lead while Josh held tightly on to second. Unfortunately, when Josh attempted to pass his brother back, he spun out while exiting the turn, bringing out a caution. The spin forced Trey to take the final restart from the back of the field, and with only a few laps remaining he was on a mission to get back to the front. Meanwhile, Trey pulled away from the field, taking home the victory when the checkered flag flew. Josh was able to maneuver his way to a ninth-place finish.
"The whole day we were running well and it looked like we were going have a really good finish," said Josh. "It may not have ended the way we wanted, but I definitely learned a lot and I know what I need to work on now."
The night may have been over for Josh, but Trey still had one more race to go. Starting the Non-Wing division race in fourth, Trey was ready to move forward, gaining two positions upon the drop of the green flag. By lap five, Trey had captured the lead and widened the gap between himself and the rest of the field. Holding on to first-place, Trey caught the back of the field and began battling through lapped traffic. The traffic slowed Josh's progress, allowing second-place driver, Christopher Bell, to close-in and make a pass for the lead with only five laps to go. Without enough time to challenge him back, Trey settled in to second-place to take the checkered-flag.
"It's awesome to have two great finishes in one night," said Trey. "It would have been cool to have my brother finish right alongside me, but I guess tonight wasn't the night. He'll keep learning though and we'll come back to the track next time ready to do it all again."
The Marcham Brothers will make their next appearance at Dutton's Speedway (OK) on Friday, July 2nd, and Saturday, July 3rd.
