Christian PaHud Closes In On Myrtle Beach Victory

MOORESVILLE N.C. (August 4, 2010) - Activ8 Development driver Christian PaHud nearly pulled off a win at Myrtle Beach Speedway on Saturday, July 31, finishing second in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series limited late model division race. At a time when most people are visiting the beach on vacation, PaHud and his team came only to work.

Having previously raced only one time at the famed Myrtle Beach Speedway, PaHud was unsure of what to expect from the .538 mile track. The team's decision to practice on Friday night prior to the race proved they had no reason to be nervous as PaHud's practice times were near the top of the chart. Even without knowing what to expect from their tires, the team felt like they were primed for a good finish in Saturday's feature event.

Forgoing qualifying, the track decided to set the field using heat races. PaHud drew the pole for the second heat race and went on to win the seven-lap race, which set him to start the feature event in second position.

"We threw everything at it for the heat race," PaHud explained. "It was a little loose on new tires, but overall our car was good."

The 18-year-old started the feature race confident and looked forward to the 25-lap race. Fighting a loose car, PaHud moved his No. 63 Orion Motorsports Chevrolet to the high side of the race track and began chasing down the leader. PaHud overdrove his car entering the corner early in the race, which actually proved to be a good thing as the young driver was able to pass the leader.

For the remainder of the race, PaHud battled side by side with the leader, all while pulling away from the rest of the field. The two continued to exchange the lead, but neither could pull away from the other. With a few laps to go, PaHud's front tires began to chatter and he fell in behind the leader. He went on to finish in second position.

"I really had a lot of fun in this race," said PaHud. "It was really good racing. I would have liked to win, but it was great just to be up front battling with a guy that has won several track championships there. His car was good on the bottom, but I could make mine work up top. We kept swapping the lead back and forth. Some laps you couldn't even tell who was leading! It was a fun night."

Over the remainder of the summer, PaHud will continue to race his limited late model throughout North and South Carolina. He also plans to race the full Southeast Limited Late Model Series schedule.
