High Point Racing's Travis Motley to Test Late Models at Hickory
Motley Looks Forward to Learning a New Track, New Car and New Driving Techniques

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (August 30, 2010)- Activ8 Development Driver Travis Motley is set to test Late Models on Wednesday, September 1 at Hickory Motor Speedway in Newton, North Carolina.

During the 2010 season the 20-year-old Tucson, Arizona native has been driving the No. 59 at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, California on the half-mile banked oval in the Auto Club Late Models series. While running a partial schedule this year, Motley racked up five top-10 finishes and one pole award.

While keeping busy racing on the West Coast, Motley has still been doing everything he can to prepare for his test on the East Coast.

"I have been watching YouTube videos of Hickory to try and learn as much as I can before I get to the track," said Motley. "The fast line at Irwindale is the middle groove, so I will have to get used to running the bottom line."

Motley is a multi-tasker by his very nature. When he is not racing, he is busy hitting the books. Motley is currently a sophomore at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington studying Engineering and Physics. Even though he is still in the early stages of college, Motley can see his studies paying off on the track as well.

"While it is no substitute for seat time, I think my engineering major has helped me understand the mechanics of how motors and suspension work," Motley explained. "I think this will only benefit me more as I continue on in my degree."

Aside from racing and studying, Motley is an avid mountain biker. He is able to take away valuable lessons from mountain biking and put it to good use when he is racing.

"In Tucson, even when I wake up at 6:00 a.m. to go for a bike ride, it is already 85 degrees, so it gets my body used to the heat I will feel inside the race car," said Motley. "It is also a good way to prepare myself mentally. When I get tired on a bike, I can't just stop. I have to dig deep and push through the pain

Overall, Motley is just looking forward to making the trip to North Carolina and wants to learn as much as he possibly can before returning to campus for the Fall Semester.

"I am really excited for how this experience will test me as a driver," he said. "I will be able to race on a different track, with a different car than I have ever raced before. It will also give me the opportunity to work with a new team."
