Doggett Comes Close On The Dirt Of Virginia Motor Speedway
Nearly Brings Home Win in Closing Season Race
Mooresville, N.C. (August 30, 2010)- Apparently Activ8 Development driver Taylor Doggett does not mind getting down and dirty on the track. Case in point: Doggett's final dirt race of the 2010 season with the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division at Virginia Motor Speedway, in which he nearly claimed a victory, finishing second.
In his two previous starts at Virginia Motor Speedway this season, Doggett has earned two very different results. Doggett scored a win on the .5-mile dirt-oval earlier in late July with his only other race at the dirt track ending in disappointment due to a flat tire. The win came just one week after his career-first victory on asphalt, showing just how versatile the 17-year old driver is.
Primarily racing asphalt Late Models this season, Doggett qualified his No.96 McDonald's dirt car in third position. The one-off dirt race meant the pressure was off for Doggett, setting him up for a charge to the front in the 25-lap feature event. Judging by the fans in the grandstands however, Doggett was already a winner as a local favorite.
"We had our own little section of fans there because it was the last night that we would be racing at Virginia Motor Speedway" said Doggett, native of nearby Ruther Glen. "The more I have seen my career progress, the more fans have started to catch on. That really means a lot to me and my team".
Throughout the feature event, Doggett was involved in a cat and mouse game with race leader Roger Jamerson, and the two quickly left the rest of the field in their dust. Doggett tried several different lines in his attempts to get around Jamerson, but none of them provided the extra push needed to take the lead to the checkered flag.
For Doggett, the second-place finish was also his second-best career finish at Virginia Motor Speedway.
"It was a really great race to be a part of, everyone likes a shootout" said Doggett about his final mudslinging event of the year. "I just need to thank everybody on my team for doing such a great job; we definitely can't do it without those guys".
